Tina revealed that Mary has Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), which is very different from regular arthritis. It isn’t caused by joint wear and tear. JIA is an autoimmune disease, which means her body attacks itself by mistake. During flare-ups, she experiences extreme fatigue, brain fog, migraines, joint pain, stiffness, stomach issues, and balance problems that make her a fall risk.

Tina informed that Mary has tried many medications over the years; however, they didn’t work well. The only treatment that works is infusions. During COVID, they had to stop her treatments as the meds attack her immune system. After she got older, they had to find a new rheumatologist who accepted her insurance. After a long search, they finally found the right doctor, and Mary has started her infusions again.

The family is currently experiencing insurance coverage issues, and Tina hopes to secure coverage before Mary’s next infusion. Mary has been suffering from JIA her whole adult life(she is 20 now). On top of everything, she began having seizures at the end of 2024. For more updates on the 1000 Lb Best Friends, follow TV Season & Spoilers.
