When it comes to collecting rare items, no one can beat Pawn Stars boss Rick Harrison. Sometimes, he buys unusual items—but, of course, they are rare. Fans also know that it is hard to convince Harrison to spend a fortune on an item unless he genuinely believes it is worth the price. However, once, the Pawn Shop owner spent a significant amount on a toilet seat.
Yes, you read that right—a toilet seat. But it wasn’t just any toilet seat; NASA had explicitly made it for astronauts. The episode was amusing, and both Corey and Rick laughed out loud as they made the deal. Still, what made it so special that Rick Harrison agreed to spend $300 on it? Keep reading to find out.

Everyone knows that wine gets better with age. Who wouldn’t want to buy a 100-year-old bottle of champagne? Apparently not Rick Harrison! Once, a guest brought in a bottle of Dom Pérignon from 1921. Back in 2004, long before this episode was filmed, a 1921 Dom Pérignon bottle sold for $8,000. The guest shared that he had kept the champagne in his liquor cabinet for many years. Harrison explained that you should store this type of alcohol at a frigid temperature and on its side, so the cork stays moist.
Rick admitted that he did not want to purchase the bottle because the champagne inside had spoiled. Still, the guest insisted that he could buy it for its rarity and history. The expert saw the bottle and immediately expressed his admiration—a 1921 Dom Pérignon is a rare sight. However, he also had some concerns. He pointed out that the cork had dried up and shrunk. Rick decided to turn down the deal after realizing that selling just the bottle would be tricky, since no one would want to buy it alone.
Pawn Stars boss Rick Harrison is truly unpredictable. Sometimes, he passes on deals that were worth buying. Other times, he spends hundreds on items no one expects him to buy. Once, a guest brought an interesting item to the show: a toilet seat. However, it was not a regular one; it was specially designed for NASA astronauts. The guest said, “This is a NASA space shuttle toilet seat.”

Harrison was amazed to learn how extraordinary the item was. The hole in the seat was much smaller than that of a standard toilet seat. The guest explained that this design was deliberate to prevent leakage and achieve a tight seal. He said he wanted $400 for the item, with a minimum of $100. He also brought a picture showing what toilets in outer space look like.
Later, Harrison called in an expert to confirm its authenticity and determine the exact market value. When Mark Hall-Patton, the expert, saw the item, he could not stop laughing. Rick had many questions about the toilet seat. Things got awkward when Harrison asked where the other end of a person would go, given how small the hole was. The expert replied that it fits into a tube.
Mark also revealed that the seat never made it into space because it was a prototype. He said the seats used in space were made of titanium and had serial numbers. That was all the Pawn Shop owner needed to know. Later, he said he would pay $200 for it. However, they closed the deal at $300.
