When Ty was first introduced in Dangerously Obese, he was afraid of the weighing scale. Sitting in Dr. Procter’s office, he admitted to fearing knowing his actual weight. From then to now, Ty has undergone significant changes. A big part of Ty’s journey has been seen by Dr Procter, the bariatric surgeon who helped Ty with the weight loss. Dr Procter has treated many obese patients before and is known to call a spade a spade.

Dr. Procter helped Ty get over his fear. Ty found his confidence after Dr Procter’s help. Growing up in Blackshear, Georgia, coming out as gay has been difficult for Ty. He struggled with faith and identity. Being on this weight loss journey has made Ty find faith in a gay friendly church. He also explored drag as he found new confidence.

Dangerously Obese Ty Griffin: Then vs Now

Ty Griffin, the star of Dangerously Obese, lost 300 pounds, and TLC posted an exclusive clip revealing what Ty looks like right now. “I never in a million years expected to be where I am right now and be this happy with myself”, Ty’s voice-over starts with the clip.  His family and friends are all gathered around for this exclusive TLC reveal. As he walks in, yelling “Hey kids”,he is greeted by cheers and clapping.

The big reveal shows Ty, looking confident in his new skin. Looking visibly thinner and healthier after losing 300 pounds, Ty is smiling as he makes the reveal. Dressed in a white shirt with black prints, khaki-colored pants, and a light cardigan draped around his shoulder. In the clip, Ty says that he has lost 320 pounds since surgery, and he looks thinner and much younger. “My goal weight was 275, and I flew right past it by 40 pounds”, he says.

“I’m never going back to how I was. This is me. This is me forever.”, he adds, laughing and smiling. The clip shows the undying support he had from his friends and family. They cheered and hugged him, congratulating him on the incredible journey. As an openly gay man from a small town in Georgia, Ty has come a long way in his journey.

Ty’s transformation did not happen just physically. As he lost weight, he mentioned that being mentally strong is very important in this journey. He found his confidence, accepted his identity, and practiced self-love and expression that eventually made this journey a success.
