Pawn Stars has seen Rick Harrison negotiate some unbelievable deals over the years, but even the most seasoned pawnbroker doesn’t always get what he wants. In one memorable episode, the shop owner came across a piece of music history tied to one of the most iconic rock bands of all time, KISS. The seller brought in a rare gold record, signed by all four original band members, hoping for a big payout.
Given KISS’s legendary status in rock culture, fans expected this deal to go down as one of Rick’s best music memorabilia buys. But things didn’t go quite as planned when the item’s authenticity and value came into question. Did Rick walk away with a rock relic or lose out on a golden opportunity? Keep reading to find out more about what happened.

Rick Harrison is famous for driving a hard bargain on Pawn Stars. He often uses lowball offers to secure a good deal. But even when he offers big money, things don’t always go his way. In a previous episode, Rick offered an impressive $7,000 for a rare 1915 Boston Red Sox team photograph. It featured a young Babe Ruth in his rookie year. Babe is a legend of the game, and at the time of the picture, he was 20 years old.
The seller expressed that he would like $12,500 for the photo as it was a rare find. He backed it up with a certificate of authenticity and a PSA sticker. Rick, ever the doubter, called over an expert on the matter. The expert concluded that the item was 100% authentic and valued at $10,000. Despite that, Rick stuck with the offer of $7,000. The seller ultimately turned him down, as he held firm on a $12,500 asking price.
The seller, Darren, arrived at the shop with a gold record for KISS’s debut album, signed by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley. He claimed it was worth around $3,000 but was willing to settle for $1,500. The record had been passed down from his uncle, who once worked for the band’s record label. It was even gifted by the label’s president and signed by the band in 1993.
Intrigued, Rick called in autograph expert Steve Grad to verify the signatures. Grad, a longtime KISS fan, examined the item closely using a magnifier. After comparing the signatures to verified examples, he confirmed that all four were authentic. However, he appraised the record between $1,200 and $1,500, lower than what Darren had hoped.
Rick started his offer at $700, later increasing it to $1,050. But Darren held firm, refusing to go below $1,300. Despite Rick’s efforts to negotiate, the two couldn’t agree on a price. “I don’t think we’ll be able to come to terms on it,” Darren concluded before walking out.
