TLC is about to release a new docuseries with the release of The Cult of the Real Housewife. With it, the showrunners promise to showcase some new details about one of the most controversial figures in the Real Housewives universe. TLC just announced a new series, which will be divided into three parts. It is going to investigate long-standing allegations surrounding Mary Cosby and her church.
Mary was the star of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, and she shared that church with her husband, Robert Cosby Sr. This new project comes after years of speculation that happened online. Many congregants have also spoken about it, and the Bravo series never addressed several claims. What truths will finally come to light, and why are so many former insiders ready to speak now? Keep reading to know more.
This docuseries has been planned by TLC for a long time, as it has been talked about a lot. Mary has been one of those personalities on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City who can create a differing opinion. The view is also present due to her marriage to Robert and her role within Faith Temple Pentecostal Church. Her grandmother, Rosemary “Mama” Cosby, originally founded the church and remains well known among congregants.
After Mama Cosby passed away, the leadership was transferred to Mary and Robert. Many didn’t like the passing of the torch because of the various allegations faced by the couple. Over time, former members started making allegations. They claimed spiritual manipulation, financial pressure, and that the couple abused their power. As the Bravo series didn’t talk much about the matter, TLC wants to explore that subject matter.
As the trailer for The Cult of the Real Housewife was released with the announcement, fans got to see what’s to come. In the trailer, we got firsthand accounts from former congregants and family members. Sources have hinted that the documentary will focus on a claim made by Mary’s cousin, Dan Cosby. Dan recalls a phone call from ex-congregant Cameron Williams. Cameron alleged he had an affair with Mary during her marriage to Robert Cosby Sr.
He even described the whole incident, giving a lot of details. According to Dan, Cameron claimed the relationship between the two started in a way of spiritual favor. Cameron allegedly revealed receiving lavish gifts, private travel, and some special treatment, which initially made him believe he was being blessed. But as time went by, he said, things became manipulative. The docuseries also features audio recordings in which Cameron describes feeling victimized.
He reportedly told Dan that he wanted his story documented in case something happened to him. Other former church members, including Ernest and Michael Enoch, also raised similar concerns about control and intimidation within the church. The series will also include commentary from investigative journalists and a cult expert, who break down the alleged tactics used to force loyalty.
