Amber, now 35, responded as honestly as she could. At 24, a doctor told her she was not likely to live past 25. However, she survived, and while she should be proud, she does not want her story used to judge others. Amber said being alive today is a privilege. Her co-stars did not live long.

She then named many My 600 Lb Life cast members who have passed away, including Henry Foots, Rob Buchel, L.B. Bonner, Lisa Fleming, Kelly Mason, Sean Milliken, James King, Coliesa McMillian, Renee Biran, Gina Krasley, Destinee LaShaee, Latonya Pottain, Dottie Perkins, Lupe Samano, Pauline Potter, and others. Amber emphasized that everyone on the show was simply trying to live and get better.

Amber thinks that praising her while criticizing others is unfair. She said that fans see reality TV participants only as simplified versions of themselves, not their full, complex selves. For her, she survived only because of additional support and care. She reminded her fans not to be selectively compassionate towards some. Everyone deserves compassion, no matter the circumstances.
