Season 12 of Vanderpump Rules introduced new members, which brings out new backstories for fans. While the show might be known for the glamorous Hollywood life, things could be different for some before that. Chris Hahn and Jason Cohen arrived at LA and SUR with big dreams of making it as actors. They hoped they would get their break in Los Angeles, which they eventually did.
But before reaching that stage, they had to endure less money and less-than-ideal living conditions. As the season unfolds, the cousins have been opening up about having to survive by eating cat food and living in their car. But how far did they really fall while chasing fame? And what finally helped them turn things around? Keep on reading to know more.

Just recently, the Vanderpump Rules stars Chris and Jason mentioned how they struggled to cover their basic expenses while working low-paying jobs. Jason admitted they needed money fast and started researching how other wannabe actors survived through social media. Jason revealed that his fans often suggested that he should start an OnlyFans account. He saw how the creators there easily made money, and soon he decided to try it himself. After trying it for a while, he was surprised to see how quickly he got some money.
Looking at this, his cousin, Chris, soon did the same. Chris was also struggling financially and wanted to earn as much as possible to pay his debt. When the season 12 cast was announced, reports surfaced about their controversial pasts. While Chris continues to work on his account under the name Axel Stone, Jason decided to quit. But one can still see the links to his page on Linktree. Reports in the National Enquirer claimed that Bravo executives were unhappy with their accounts. It was alleged that the network prefers “sexy, not scandal.”
In episode 5 of Vanderpump Rules’ latest season, Chris and Jason revealed more about their struggles in Los Angeles. The reality stars said the debts had pushed them to extreme living conditions. Jason revealed that he was working three jobs but was still struggling. Chris admitted that he expected to live comfortably when he first arrived in the city, but things didn’t go according to plan.

In a flashback scene, the cousins mentioned how they once lived in their cars because they didn’t have a place to stay. They packed all of their things in trash bags and kept them close. Jason joked that he used the bags for warmth during cold nights. Despite living in a car, they couldn’t save much and struggled for food. At first, Jason revealed that he was surviving on ramen noodles. When that didn’t work as well, he resorted to cat food.
He explained that he wanted to eat clean but couldn’t afford real grocery items. Jason laughingly said that the cat food tasted like canned tuna to him. Chris later turned to music, modeling, and bartending at SUR. He also earned income from reality dating shows and brand partnerships. Jason continues to pursue acting in hopes of earning big from it.
