Chrisley Knows Best: Todd Chrisley Opens Up About His First Days Behind Bars

Chrisley Knows Best star Todd was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison, while his wife Julie was given a seven-year sentence. During an appearance on The Cast Collective podcast, Todd revealed he entered prison carrying $1,000 in cash and a Bible. His father had instilled in him the need to keep some cash wherever he went. Prison officials took the money and placed it into a trust account under his name. Soon after, Todd was asked to collect his prison uniforms.

He admitted that he was used to dry-cleaned clothes and didn’t understand how prison laundry worked. Fellow inmates started laughing when he asked who would iron and fold his clothes. Todd said the once-a-week bedsheet changes surprised him. Eventually, he paid two inmates to wash and iron his clothes for him. Todd also shared that he never ate from the prison kitchen, as staff delivered meals directly to him. He later acknowledged that he received preferential treatment during his sentence.

Chrisley Knows Best: Todd Chrisley Pushes For Prison Reform And Justice

Chrisley Knows Best star Todd sat down with Ian Bick on the Chrisley Confession 2.0 podcast, where he spoke about prison reform. Todd said he got to know about the flaws in the prison system during his time there. He became motivated to fight for fair treatment of inmates. Todd claimed he continues to advocate for better prison conditions and does not plan to stop. He said the Bureau of Prisons knows he will keep talking about it.

According to Todd, his work forced several wardens to quit. Todd said he recently received a text about six incarcerated individuals with miscalculated release dates. After he intervened, officials corrected their sentences and sent them home the same day. Although he wasn’t working for any money, Todd said getting news like this was worth more than any money.

He was also self-aware about his criticism from social media users, who could question why he does not promote his efforts online. Todd explained that it was not his place to talk about others. If they want to tell their stories, they should do so themselves. Todd also revealed plans to invite 40 formerly incarcerated individuals onto his podcast.
