After a five-year-long hiatus, it’s finally time to question if ‘Death Parade Season 2’ will ever make it to screens. Infamous for making mostly one-season animes, Madhouse has kept us waiting for yet another masterpiece. With its debut back in 2015, the studio was pretty positive about creating a sequel. Well, now that we’re in 2020, their status is still quite the same.
Unlike most other animes, Death Parade did not originate from a light novel or manga series. In fact, back in 2013, the story came into existence in the form of an animated short film called Death Billiards. Upon its releases as a 12-episode anime series, the ground-breaking plotline went booming for millions of viewers around the globe. Gradually, the demand for a second round rose, and the studio came under a lot of pressure.
Will Madhouse Ever Renew ‘Death Parade Season 2?
Madhouse is popular amongst anime enthusiasts for creating Death Note, One Punch Man, Ace of Diamond, Hunter x Hunter 2011, and several other gems. The studio has several potential projects running in its schedule. Hence, chances for it to pick up a five-year-old series are pretty unlikely. However, despite this, the studio can still bank in from Death Parade Season 2 if it happens.
Upon its release, the studio did not expect ‘Death Parade’ turning out as a huge success. However, the series touched millions of hearts and ended up becoming one of the best animes of the decade. As of today, Death Parade Season 2 remains to be the talk of the town. A large number of fans are still excited about a sequel. Hence, Madhouse may rope into the popularity and create another installment due to its high demand.
In fact, back in 2016, Madhouse was actually ready to order a second season. According to Filmschoolwtf, the studio came forward to talk about the renewal. They explained that they’ve decided to give the green light to Death Parade Season 2, although there are several problems they need to fight. However, as of today, the studio is yet to announce the official renewal due to these problems.
Will Season 2 Ever Come Out?
The makers of the classic anime are facing several problems in creating Death Parade Season 2. One of the main issues includes a lack of content. Death Parade was actually adapted from a short film produced by the Madhouse studios itself. The debut season completed the entire plot. Hence, they do not have any source material left to create a sequel.
Most of the original story animes do not get a second chance. In order to create Death Parade Season 2, the studio will have to create a brand new storyline related to the ending of the debut season. Luckily, there are several aspects of the plot that writer Yuzuri Tachikawa can use to generate some new episodes. Unlike other original stories, Death Parade may actually get a sequel. Hence, there is still hope for the anime’s return. But what will happen next?
Death Parade Season 2: Plot Details
After a series of emotional developments, the anime ends with Decim sending Chiyuki’s soul off for reincarnation. He sees her off with a smile on his face and gets ready to welcome new guests to the bar. Between all this, we get to know that Nona is the one who manages the bartenders and arbiter systems in the Death Parade world. Besides, Oculus, the creator of the arbitration system, observes all the floors. However, in the final episode, it is revealed that Oculus is a mere puppet. Hence, we still don’t know who actually pulls the string in the afterlife world.
The makers may discuss the same in Death Parade Season 2. On the other hand, the writers can also explore Decim’s origin and life story. Besides, the sequel may discuss various other situations where Decim or other arbiters develop human emotions. In fact, the second installment can also center around several other bars on different floors in the Death Parade world.

When Will It Release?
As of today, Madhouse has not announced if they’re actually working on Death Parade Season 2. It’s usually hard for fans to wait any longer than five to six years. The studio should release the sequel soon in case they’re planning to create it. However, even if they begin productions today, the anime may not return anytime earlier than 2021.
