Devilman Crybaby Season 2: Has Netflix Canceled It? Will It Ever Return?

Netflix

With the amount of popularity the anime gained, we were all hopeful about Devilman Crybaby Season 2 renewal. However, Netflix failed us and our beliefs. It has almost been two years since the anime adaptation of Devilman manga series debuted. Yet, we barely have any confirmation about the show’s return. Well, since we’re soon arriving Devilman Crybaby’s second anniversary next month, it’s finally time to question if it will ever be back.

After waiting for two years, fans are gradually losing hope. As of now, all we want is Netflix to give a green flag or at least a red one, so we stop desiring Devilman Crybaby Season 2 anymore. However, until we get any official confirmation, here’s every reason why there can or cannot be another season of the anime.

Devilman Crybaby Season 2: Renewal

Netflix hasn’t announced an official renewal of the anime series yet. Devil Crybaby may be the second entry in the platform’s list of original anime shows, but it sure is the best one of them all. Even today, it is immensely popular amongst subscribers. However, the streamer barely takes a few months to greenlight a show that has any chance of return (at least the non-animated ones). Besides, a years-long hiatus is totally unlike Netflix‘s methods. This suggests that the streaming platform may not renew the anime adaptation any further.

Back in early 2018, the makers were teasing fans of an “important announcement” coming in May 2018. However, the news turned out to be useless when it comes to the anime series’ renewal.

Main Reason Why Season 2 May Not Happen

Well, there actually is a valid reason why Devilman Crybaby Season 2 may not return on Netflix anymore. Apparently, the ten-episode debut season covered the entire plotline of its source material. Hence, upon exhausting all the available content, there’s nothing major left to make another season upon.

The story of the manga series revolves around best friends, Akira Fudo and Ryo Asuka. As demons assail the world, Akira has to convert into a Devilman in order to save humanity. However, Ryo, who initially helps him in the fight, gives him a huge betrayal. He turns out to be the Satan, leading the demons to wipe out humans. Towards the end of the series, the war between humans and demons leads to the destruction of the world, and Ryo kills Akiro in the battle.

In the end, God’s angels ascend on the planet, and it is then restored again. The molten Earth cools and becomes green and blue anew. Well, this conclusion is the one mentioned in the source material, leaving no content to make another installment.

Can Netflix Still Save It?

Netflix has previously revived several long lost shows. In fact, it has continued some series despite exhausting the source material. Some non-animated shows like ‘The End Of The F***ing World’ were extended by asking the writers to write a sequel of their original book. In that case, Devilman Crybaby Season 2 may still have a chance to return. Otherwise, the only way to continue the story of the anime is to pick up the plot from one of the Devilman manga series.

The manga spinoffs of the Devilman franchise can further be used to create more installments of the anime adaptation. The options include Violence Jack, Demon Knight, and Devil Lady manga series. In fact, Devil Lady, and Devilman Saga Mangas are the official sequels to the Devilman story. Hence, this might help to make more installments of the Netflix anime. On the other hand, the streamer may instead make a spin-off anime of Devilman Crybaby instead.

Devilman Crybaby Season 2: Release Date

Since we don’t even have a renewal yet, it’s hard to predict a release date. However, the streaming platform may take a while to make any firm decisions upon the anime’s return. Besides, even if they decide to bring it back, Devilman Crybaby Season 2 may not premiere until a few years. As of now, it’s hard to expect the sequel before 2021.
