Gangsta is a Japanese crime drama anime series. It is the remake of the manga series of the same title by Kohske. The fans first saw this anime on July 1, 2015. It had a run of twelve episodes, which concluded on September 27 of the same year. It got a tremendous response from the viewers and from the critics as well. But for some reason, the makers haven’t released their second season yet.
Renewal Status Of The Second Season!
After hearing the name of this anime everyone thought, it would be a basic crime anime show with some action. But the anime actually offered a lot more than that, especially after its premiere episode. It hooked the viewers in no time, and when it ended, everyone getting desperate to see more of it. Despite all that positive response, the fans never saw Gangsta Season 2. The main reason behind this is the fall of its production studio.
Manglobe Studios, who produced the debut season of the anime series, filed for bankruptcy back in 2015 after getting in an estimated debt of 350 million yen. Gangsta turned out to be the last show produced by them, and they never got the opportunity to renew the show. Over these five years, it wasn’t picked by any other studio, and the authors of the manga also didn’t talk about the fate of the anime.
Gangsta Season 2: Is There Enough Source Material?
The anime follows the plot from the manga of the same title. The inaugural season adapts the plot from the first six volumes of the manga series. However, Kohske has published only eight volumes in this series so far. And that means the makers have only two volumes to create Gangsta Season 2, which is definitely not enough. They will need at least three more volumes to create a full-fledged season. And that’s the main reason why any other studio hasn’t picked up the series.
Gangsta Season 2: Will The Anime Ever Return?
The odds are definitely not in favor of the return of this anime. Manglobe Studio has declared bankruptcy in 2015. Kohske hasn’t published the manga after its eighth volume. And during the course of these five years, the popularity of the anime also decreased. So currently, no studio has a single reason to make Gangsta Season 2. Therefore, it is likely that the fans will never see the return of this crime anime show.
