Unlike most anime series, Kill la Kill is actually an original story created by Studio Trigger and written by Kazuki Nakashima. The manga series of the story released along with Episode 1 of the anime on October 4, 2013. The studio also released an original video animation (OVA) episode later in September 2014. Will ‘Kill la Kill Season 2’ Ever Release?

Despite waiting for seven long years, fans are still pretty much interested in getting a second season. The anime is loved and adored by millions of people from all around the globe. Kill la Kill is a critically acclaimed series with ratings as high as 8.2/10 on MyAnimeList. In fact, it is rated 7.9/10 on IMDb, topped with a 4.6/5 Crunchyroll rating.

Kill la Kill is a very absorbing show with a riveting story. The highlight of the entire anime is its relatable and lovable characters. Moreover, the series was also a big success. Both anime and manga worked well with the audience and became instant hits. Hence, it was normal for fans to expect some more episodes. Yet, despite all these qualities, Studio Trigger did not give us the green light. In fact, the producers are yet to make any formal comments against or in favor of Kill la Kill Season 2’s renewal.

The main reason behind the same is that the story of the show is already wrapped up. Season 1 concluded the plot by tying up all loose ends. Hence, the creators do not intend to continue a story that has already found its perfect end. On the other hand, Trigger does not have any content in order to create another season. Kill la Kill Season 2 can only happen if the producers come up with an original story yet again.

As of now, seven years have passed, and it’s hard to say that the anime will return. Television series, specially animes usually do not release after such a long hiatus. Besides, Studio Trigger has no history of creating shows with two seasons. Not to mention, Kill la Kill was actually the first television production by the studio. Hence, fans will eventually need to bid goodbyes to their favorite characters.

Can Fans Still Save It?

The most important question here is whether fans can still save the series or not. Despite all these reasons, followers are consistently trying to convince the producers. Since the end of Season 1 in 2013, plenty of petitions to save ‘Kill la Kill Season 2’ have emerged. None of them has apparently made any difference yet. However, these petitions do hold some influence that might put some pressure on the studio.

Well, one of the main reasons why these petitions aren’t working is that Kill la Kill’s audience is split into halves. A large number of fans agree that the anime has found its perfect end, and there’s no point in continuing it any further. They accept the series as it is and do not want a stretched up version. Well, both sides have some good points to put.

Will There Be Any Spin-offs?

There’s also a large section of fans that say that Kill la Kill’s strength wasn’t in the plot but in the characters. Hence, they want to see more of those characters, even if it’s in the form of a spin-off series. The anime has a bunch of interesting characters that deserve a show of their own. As of now, Trigger is still unconcerned about Kill la Kill Season 2 and all projects related to it. However, there’s still a chance that another studio or platform like Netflix might decide to pick up the project.

Kill la Kill Season 2: Release Date

While it’s clear that Studio Trigger may not make more KLK episodes, but other studios can. Kill la Kill still has a large fanbase despite being a seven-year-old production. Hence, reviving the anime can actually turn out to be a profitable deal for any production company. Well, even if that happens, Kill la Kill Season 2 or any project related to it have no chance of release before 2021 or 2022.
