The popular romcom anime is celebrating its second anniversary this year. Yet, the makers of the series have not confirmed Wotakoi Season 2 to date. Well, as per the looks, chances for its renewal are pretty likely. In fact, after years of waiting, we finally see some hope for the future of the show. When will it return? Here’s everything you need to know.
Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku was originally a web manga series written and illustrated by Fujita. It began serialization in 2014 and hasn’t stopped winning our hearts yet. An eleven-episode anime adaptation by A1-Pictures debuted back in 2018. Due to the popularity of its source material, the television anime became the talk of the town. Upon its release, the series stood up to the expectations of the manga readers and became a world-wide grosser for its producers. A live-action film adaptation premiered in the Japanese theatres in February 2020.
Will Wotakoi Season 2 Ever Come Out?
After the two-year-long wait, we can finally see some hope for Wotakoi Season 2. The debut season of the anime ran for eleven episodes from April to June 2018. The series almost consumed the first four volumes of the manga series. Although it left out some of the chapters in between while expanding the content as per the need. Hence, for a second season of the same length, A1-Pictures would need another four volumes for adaptation.
However, Wotakoi mangaka Fujita only writes one or two volumes per year. As of today, only eight books of the manga series have been published. The most recent one, Volume 8, came out on December 13, 2019. Hence, with the arrival of the eighth volumes, the anime creators will finally have enough source material for the second season. Therefore, chances for the renewal of Wotakoi Season 2 are on the peak. Yet, fans may have to wait for a while until A1-Pictures makes an official announcement.
Even if the series does not comes out for a few more years, fans need not worry about their favorite anime. The production of anime series takes much longer than TV shows at times. Besides, unlike most US television programs, anime shows normally have long gaps between seasons. In fact, some iconic animated shows like One-Punch Man and Log Horizon released their sequels after four or five years. Hence, it’s safe to wait for a few years until the Wotakoi Season 2 actually premieres.
On the other hand, considering that A1-Pictures currently have a busy schedule, the upcoming rom-com sequel may take a while to go on floors. As of now, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Season 2, new anime Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle and latest sci-fi anime 86, are set to release in 2020. The list also includes anime film Love Me, Love Me Not. Whereas, the tragic Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has slowed down the studio’s production rate. Hence, Wokatoi Season 2 may not get the green flag until everything gets back to normal.
Manga Volume Delayed!
As mentioned previously, Wotakoi mangaka publishes around one or two manga volumes per year. The series has a certain pattern of release, due to which, one book comes out at the beginning of the year, while the second one appears towards the end. Since the eighth volume came out in December 2019, Volume 9 must have arrived in February or March 2020. The manga installment is yet to hit the market.

One of the main reasons behind its delay is due to the Coronavirus outbreak. The 2020 pandemic has taken the lives of thousands of people around the globe. It has also caused a major decline in the economy of several industries. Therefore, the entertainment industry is facing its wrath too. Hence, most of the manga/light novel installments, TV shows, and anime have been delayed for a while. While there’s no news about Wotakoi Volume 9 currently, we promise to update this article as soon as the details arrive.
Wotakoi Season 2: Release Date
A1-Pictures is yet to announce the renewal of Wotakoi Season 2. Hence, it’s hard to predict a release date so soon. However, as per the current situation, any new episodes may not arrive anytime before mid to late 2021. This section will be updated with information after official announcements.
