But it wasn’t the tomorrow thing. Kim’s involvement in Cantu’s case dates back to late January when she first heard his story. She took to social media platforms like X/Twitter to urge her fans to sign a petition requesting Texas Governor Greg Abbott to delay the execution by 30 days. The petition aimed to allow for the review of new evidence in Ivan Cantu’s case. Also, to look for potential mistakes and injustices that may have occurred during his trial.
For the unversed, Ivan Cantu was found guilty in 2001 of the murders of his cousin, James Mosqueda, and Mosqueda’s fiancée, Amy Kitchen. But Cantu denied the allegations. He said he was framed for the crimes. He claimed that Mosqueda, who was allegedly a drug dealer, had significant debts to a rival dealer. Moreover, in reality, he was actually targeted by this rival who committed the murders and falsely framed Cantu.
However, the prosecutors stated a different story. But Kim Kardashian’s interest and involvement in the case provided it with the required limelight. The supermodel put a lot of effort into offering Cantu justice. Additionally, Kim Kardashian teamed up with other high-profile figures like actor Michael Sheen and anti-death penalty activist Sister Helen Prejean to provide justice to Cantu.
She even tried to amplify the call for a closer examination of Cantu’s case. However, despite Kim Kardashian’s efforts, the court denied Cantu’s appeal for communication. Ultimately, he was led to death with lethal injection.
