Kim Kardashian’s Skims Faces Allegations For “False Messaging”

Kim Kardashian is everything a person aspires to be. She is a billionaire, a lawyer, a businesswoman, and a supermodel. As we already know, Kim is running many high-end and luxurious brands, including Skims. Skims is a shapewear and clothing brand with a keen focus on body positivity.

Recently, Kim Kardashian posted photos wearing Skims skin-toned shapewear. However, the internet went in a buzz when Victoria’s Secret model Imaan Hammam wore a similar piece in her recent pictures. It quickly became a subject of discussion, as many seemed drawn to Imaan’s body-hugger. Not only this, but many also doubted Skim’s message.

Kim Kardashian launched Skims in 2019 as a brand that practices inclusivity and body positivity for all sizes. In an interview, Kim revealed how most brands would flatten her curves or pinch her skin. She also revealed how starting to launch Skims felt like a fresh perspective on a perfect time. It’s safe to say that she was right, as now Skims is worth more than $3 billion.

In October 2023, the supermodel announced Skims’ partnership with the NBA to model for the new Men’s collection. Followers of the brand were shocked to see that the campaign had a very exciting lineup. Some of the most prominent ones were the Brazilian footballer Neymar, Nick from the San Francisco 49ers, and Oklahoma City Thunders player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

However, despite the efforts, the campaign got mixed reviews. That’s because, since its launch, Kim Kardashian has advertised Skims as “a solution-oriented brand” with a “solution for everybody.” However, Dr. Kirsty Manning, a body image expert, said that Kim’s advertising does not align with body positivity.

In an interview, Dr. Manning talked about how referring to Skims “as a solution” was wrong and how it gave out a wrong message in the name of body positivity. Moreover, she said that Kim’s solution was to “suck in your body and change it.”

Furthermore, Dr. Kirsty Manning pointed out that the Kardashians have a thin shape. So, Skims’ message sounds perfect for them. But plus-size women are feeling like outcasts. “They are saying that we should not have any shape, any rolls, or any cellulite and that we need to wear shapewear,” Dr. Manning stressed.

The body image expert also said that Skims’ messaging delivers the exact opposite of what it intended to do. She further continued that Kim Kardashian should fix the messaging of Skims and encourage women to embrace the bodies they have.

Kim Kardashian has not yet said anything about the claims made by Dr. Kristy Manning. However, we will keep updating you on more news regarding Kim Kardashian, so stay with TV Season & Spoilers.
