In Coronation Street, very few characters have left a mark quite like Mavis Riley. The loved character, portrayed by Thelma Barlow, impressed audiences with her moralistic living ways for 26 years. Recently, the soap star has teased the possibility of her return.
But, she will not be the same noblewoman when she returns. The notion of an elderly serial killer storyline creates endless possibilities for Mavis’s character. In the past, even after requests from producers, Thelma Barlow has remained steadfast in her decision to keep Mavis’s story concluded.
However, the actress’s recent statement sparks Thelma’s chance to revisit the character. She reveals, “So yeah unless she becomes a serial killer or a drug dealer or fancies an affair, we’ll not likely see her again.” Coronation Street fans were quick to express their excitement about ‘an elderly serial killer’ on Reddit.
Viewers must recall Mavis entered Corrie in 1971 as a receptionist at the local vet. However, she quickly made a name for herself in the town. One of Mavis’s most memorable Coronation Street storylines includes her romance with salesman Derek Wilton. They eventually got married in 1988.
