Coronation Street Former Phil Middlemiss Announces His New Project
Phil Middlemiss has landed a new soap role on the BBC show Doctors. Coronation Street fans must remember him as Des Barnes, who was a part of the soap from 1990 to 1998. Now, he is all set to grace our screens as DI Travis Lennox. But this isn’t the first time Phil will be appearing in Doctors.
He previously appeared in an episode of the BBC series in 2014, playing Frank Pickard. The reports say that the debut date of the Coronation Street former has not been announced yet, but it is confirmed to happen this year, especially since Doctors will be ending in December after over two decades.
The BBC announced in a statement that they had made the very difficult decision to end the daytime drama ‘Doctors’ after 23 years. They explained that due to superinflation in drama production, the cost of the program had increased significantly.
Now, the soap either needs to invest in refurbishing the soap site or relocate it to another home. The statement concluded with thanks to all the “Doctors” cast and crew involved in the show since 2000. It added, “We know the crucial role Doctors has played in nurturing talent.”
Talking about Middlemiss, he debuted on Coronation Street with his on-screen partner Steph. But she left him just a year later. Des later married Natalie Horrocks. Unfortunately, his character was written off that same year after meeting the end of his life from a heart attack while trying to protect his stepson from a group of attackers.
After his exit, the soap star starred in the ITV series ‘Where the Heart Is’ from 2000 to 2006. He also appeared on shows like Blankety Blank, Noel’s House Party, and Celebrity Come Dine With Me.
