Coronation Street To Air Simon’s Emotional Departure Scenes
Alex Bain, known for his role as Simon Barlow on Coronation Street, revealed his exit scenes and future plans after leaving the soap. Simon’s final episode will air on June 3, 2024. In the episode, he is all set to say goodbye to Weatherfield to work on a yacht with his father, Peter.
Reflecting on filming his last scenes, Alex remarked that it had been incredibly emotional. He shared that they had filmed out of order, so the last scene he filmed wasn’t Simon’s last scene in Coronation Street. In his final filmed scene, Simon is in Roy’s Rolls, saying goodbye to Carla.
Also, Alex’s parents came in to watch the scene, making it memorable. And not only did they watch, they were a part of it as background artists in the cafe. The soap star said it was special for both Alex and his parents. He continued that he felt ‘very positive’ about leaving Coronation Street.
It’s because he acknowledged that the show had been the backbone of his life, but it might be time to see what the future held. He highlighted that it wasn’t just a job; it was like being part of a family. Moreover, his co-stars would always remain in his life as friends, not just colleagues.
The actor believed that Simon’s departure meant Alex could embark on new adventures. He mentioned that he and his Coronation Street alter-ego were like two sides of the same coin. He added, “I am so pleased that he has a happy ending and there is hope for his future.” Bain was glad that Simon hadn’t been killed off or gone to prison.
