Days of Our Lives: The REAL Reason Why Kate, Kayla, And Marlena Went To Purgatory

Last year when Salemites fought tooth and nail to banish the Devil on Days of Our Lives, we thought we had seen the last of him. However, the makers proved us wrong. Kate, Marlena and Kayla’s little holiday in Purgatory proved that the Devil is literally always hanging around the corner! Recently, when the ladies lost their lives thanks to the toxins, they found themselves trapped in their own personal versions of hell. The Devil’s lackey, Nick, tormented them for weeks on the soap.

However, the ladies eventually found their way back to the land of living on Days of Our Lives. But the bad news is, that way lead their very much alive bodies straight into cryogenic chambers. That too at Megan Hathaway’s lab. Interestingly, when Kate, Marlena, and Kayla woke up, their memories of the time they spent in purgatory were wiped off. This left us wondering what the point of that entire storyline was. Why show it if the ladies were going to forget it anyway?

We were almost ready to write the question off as permanently answered. But, Days of Our Lives Head-writer Ron Carlivati caught us off guard. In a recent chat with Soap Opera Digest, he explained that they were stalling. Stalling what? you might ask. Ron pointed out that it was decided very early on that Bo and Hope’s return to Salem will be tied to Kate, Marlena, and Kayla. However, that angle was supposed to happen on Beyond Salem.

But when they realized that Days of Our Lives was moving to Peacock. They thought it would be better to do the story in the mothership instead of the spinoff. Furthermore, Ron pointed out that the story was such that they had no trouble moving it from Beyond Salem to Days of Our Lives. After they got the green signal to do it, of course! The reason why they had to stall by sending the ladies to Purgatory was to buy time. They were still waiting to find it if Beyond Salem was happening or not, explained Ron.

It was kind of a “pit stop” on their way to the cryogenic tubes on Days of Our Lives. Ron divulged that personally, he absolutely loved the track. He thought it was “super fun,” he chuckled. Well, we are happy that Ron clarified the reason behind the storyline. It’s always great to have the answers to the questions our beloved soaps raise! Anyhoo, now that the ladies are back to earth, we wonder how they will escape this version of hell! Stay tuned to Days of Our Lives over weekdays to find out what Kate, Marlena, and Kayla do next.
