As he gave fans a sneak peek of his life as a parent on social media, a fan suddenly took a dig at him. Over the last few years, the Derricos witnessed hurdles in their way. He lost his dear nephew, Amani, to cancer and started co-parenting his 14 kids with Karen.
However, it didn’t end with that; his mother, GG, has been facing health issues for more than a decade. She dealt with cancer and underwent chemotherapy sessions to cure it. Karen and Deon Derrico are no longer together as a couple. Yet, they have taken responsibility for their shared children. While what happened behind the camera that led to their divorce is unknown, they have broken their 19 years of marriage and togetherness. The reality TV stars’ divorce was finalized in June 2024.
Although Deon and Karen have 14 kids to look for, they have legal custody of only 13 of them because they are minors. Their firstborn is now 19, so she didn’t come under their medical insurance and child support pay. Currently, the DDWTD star Deon is paying $1,166/month in child support, while Karen is responsible for providing the kids’ medical insurance. The duo also let Karen continue with her last name, Derrico.

Recently, Deon Derrico took to his Instagram to upload a video of his little kids. He highlighted a crucial phase of growing up. In the clip, he showed one of his boys losing his milk tooth. As the siblings tried to calm him down, the father of 14 pulled the teeth out. While doing so, he said that the DDWTD star Karen didn’t have the strength to do it.
Deon further mentioned that dads are important because they love, care for, guide, advise, and do much more. In the caption of his post, he also elaborated on all of his roles as a father to his children. However, one of his fans didn’t like his way of proudly calling out Karen. The fan criticized him for his harsh words.
The woman asked Deon what he meant by Karen being weak. “Mommy didn’t have the strength?” the user commented. The TLC celeb disagreed with her and said that he didn’t want to convey that way. He clarified that, indeed, his ex-wife had strength since she gave birth to his 15 babies.
Deon further stated that Karen naturally had four of her kids, so she is a strong woman to him. Other fans ignored his statement as they focussed on his growing babies.
