In the same book, Gypsy elaborated that she researched about her condition, which is a chromosomal change. It also leads to psychiatric problems, and it’s quite coincidental that she faced these issues without realizing they stemmed from her genetic condition. Her mother lied about a lot of her illnesses, but this one was actually true. But she never got the treatment for it.
What is 1q21.1 Microdeletion, Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Rare Generic Condition?
Gypsy Rose Blanchard suffers from 1q21.1 Microdeletion, which is a chromosomal change condition. In this, a small part of a chromosome is removed from each cell. As per several medical theses and explanations, this removal of chromosomes occurred on the long (q) arm of the chromosome in a region designated q21.1. This increases the risk of delayed development in a child.

Furthermore, it can also lead to intellectual disability, physical abnormalities, and neurological and psychiatric problems in one. However, there are several cases with people suffering from 1q21.1 microdeletion who do not have any of the mentioned side-effects. However, 75% of children with 1q21.1 microdeletion have delayed development effects. They even have issues in basic life skills, such as sitting, standing, walking, and many more.

While at the time, her mother tricked her into believing that she had many illnesses, this one was indeed true. Gypsy revealed that there were 50-50 chances that her daughter could inherit it, so they did not take the risk and got her tested.
