It was about a family of 14 and how Deon and Karen navigated parenthood of so many children. The show started in 2020 and ran till mid-2024. He said TLC paid them well.

Even though he didn’t give an exact number, Deon pointed out that TLC paid them a handsome amount for their show. When Sarah Fraser asked if it was $8000 per episode, he said it was way more than that. Apparently, the network paid around $25000 per episode. It was a good sum. However, he mentioned that the amount seems terrific, but it was not enough to compensate for a large family of 14.

Deon then spilled the tea about how the paycheck did not take GG and Erik into consideration. They had to be paid from his and Karen’s pockets. “We were paid well. I feel like every time we negotiated, they would honor our requests,” he said. “But when you juxtapose the size of our family, and that’s including both GG and Eric … you have 18 people eating out of that pot.”

Deon is frustrated that he couldn’t leverage his reality TV fame into brand deals or sponsorships, as TLC stood in the way of that. It was in their contract that they couldn’t profit from the show without their approval.
