It came as a huge shock earlier in 2023 when news of Karen Taylor getting written off on EastEnders first surfaced. In the past six years, she has become quite a hit with fans. As well as made a special place for herself in Walford. However, in light of taking full blame for Albie’s kidnapping, she and Mitch Baker fled. They took off with the ransom money while leaving Keanu and Bernie behind.
Thus, viewers were surprised when Karen and Mitch made an unexpected return to EastEnders in the Christmas episode. While the rest of Walford was celebrating, Bernie was alone and freezing in her house. She had already been struggling with mixed feelings over what Keanu did. However, she ultimately chose to forgive her brother after much deliberation. Unfortunately, it only latest a whisker. As Keanu showed no empathy for Bernie when the power in her flat was cut off. She couldn’t afford the bills on her own.
Christmas started on a very cold note for Bernie on EastEnders. Thus, she decided to video call her mum on the festive day. Karen quizzed her daughter about why the lights were out and her coat was on. Not wanting to worry her mum, Bernie lied and said she preferred it that way. Having spoken to her mum, she craved for her return. Thus, Bernie reached out to Keanu in hopes of convincing him to get Karen back by confessing the truth.

Unfortunately, Keanu dissed the idea, not wanting to get exposed on EastEnders. Furthermore, he uninvited Bernie for his wedding. Feeling betrayed by her brother’s heartless act, she went ahead and told Phil everything. Livid, Phil stormed to the church and told Sharon everything before she could tie the knot with Keanu. In fact, not only did she break off their relationship, but she also did one better by telling Keanu that he wasn’t Albie’s real father.
