Will Emmerdale Lose Its Human Touch In the Next Five Years?
A soap director recently shared that Artificial Intelligence (AI) might take over the TV world in the coming five years. That means soaps like Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and EastEnders will be run by chatbots, replacing humans. James Hawes, who is a Doctor Who former, is also the vice-chairman of Directors UK.
Recently, Hawes was questioned by Culture, Media, and Sport Committee members on the impact of tech on the industry. He revealed that he explored artificial intelligence after BBC canceled Doctors last year. James commented, “The genie is out of the bottle.” His statement basically means that the AI revolution has already begun.
The director shared about a platform, Sora, which made him change his mind. Basically, Sora can make realistic scenes in soaps like Emmerdale from simple text prompts made by ChatGPT. He said, “It’s text generative, so someone’s typed or spoken into a machine, ‘Give me a scene of a woman in Tokyo walking in a rainy street,’ and it produces it.”
James added it’s not live-action perfect, but it’s pretty close. According to him, ‘various visual effects people’ said that it would take three to five years before bots made a show like Emmerdale. He added, “It may not be as polished as we’d been used to, but that’s how close we’re getting.” Will AI really eclipse human creativity? Let us see!
