Emmerdale cast Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden made their wedding a memorable day not just for them but for their guests, too. They decided to plan their surprise wedding for Charley’s 30th birthday. When their 100 guests arrived for Charley’s birthday celebration, the couple revealed their big secret. Following keeping the event a secret since 2018, the couple shocked everyone.
The Emmerdale off-screen couple assigned special roles to the guests in order to make the wedding more memorable. While Charley’s Emmerdale best friend, Lucy Pargeter, was a bridesmaid, her brother, Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, had the honor to give her away. Charley and Matthew met on the set of Emmerdale in 2007. Over time, they got close in the year 2019, and Matthew proposed to Charley. Since then, they have welcomed three children in their lives: Buster, Bowie, and Ace.

The surprise wedding was magical for Emmerdale stars Charley and Matthew. Charley expressed that the moment they revealed the surprise wedding secret and saw everybody’s reaction, it was the best moment of her life. She shared that someone had once told her about a friend’s surprise wedding, and it stuck in her mind. Matthew added, “We couldn’t have had a better response. People just screamed for about ten minutes! It’s funny to think that our guests thought they were coming to Charley’s 30th party – then we told them it was our wedding!
The wedding’s uniqueness, in addition to that it was a surprise, was its highlight. It was a traditionally deviated wedding as there was no formal sit-down meal, and they kept speeches to a minimum. Matthew said, “It wasn’t the most traditional wedding, but we wanted it to be different.” On their wedding anniversary, the Emmerdale cast posted a throwback picture. Captioning the picture, he wrote, “This photo was taken 15 years ago. We had just ‘got together.’” He continued: “Now we’ve been married 4 years and have 3 amazing, beautiful (always annoying) boys running around the house and driving us mad! The actor declared that as they had the picture (posted picture), he already knew they’d be together forever, and he’d found his soulmate. He ended the note by expressing, “Love you, pal. Happy anniversary. X.”
But things have also been rocky for the couple. They broke up in 2013 and released a statement by a spokesperson, which said, “‘Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden have today confirmed they have separated.’ However, they got back together in 2015, with Matthew telling the Mirror: ‘It was never a permanent split, we just needed some time apart’ – before finally tying the knot. This proves that our favorite Emmerdale stars always keep us entertained and hooked on the screen and into their lives, too.
