Emmerdale character Bernice Blackstock has said her goodbye to the Dales. She is now moving to Portugal for a fresh start. However, Bernice’s exit was already confirmed, but Emmerdale fans are ‘cringing’ over the exit storyline. They don’t appear to be pleased with Bernice’s exit.
After her fraud was exposed, Bernice had a tough time in Emmerdale. She already had a troubled relationship with sister Nicola, and Bernice’s secret only made things worse. This was enough for members of her family to abandon her. The whole situation led to her departure. Will she, however, make a comeback?
Why Did Bernice Decide To Leave Emmerdale?
Bernice left Emmerdale on November 14, 2023, and moved to Portugal to start a new life. The ITV soap fans saw Bernice buying herself plenty of expensive gifts when things didn’t work out with Bob Hope. However, business at the B&B has been difficult, raising the question of how Bernice might afford her expenditures. It all made sense when her fraud was exposed. She had taken out a £20k debt in the name of her sister Nicola Wheeler.
When her family discovered the truth, Bernice feared that she might go to prison. After hiding from her family with the help of Cathy Hope, she was faced with the truth in violent scenes. Finally, Bernice’s daughter, Gabby Thomas, was cruel enough to refuse to provide her debt-repayment money.
Despite being set to imprison her, Nicola made a deal with Bernice. Bernice consented to Nicola’s debt repayment for her B&B shares. She said she’d leave the Dales to avoid being humiliated. Gabby forgave her mother and wished her journey, while Nicola ignored her.
Emmerdale fans were totally disappointed about the exit storyline. They took to social media to express their thoughts. One of the fans wrote, “What an absolute shocking and cringing exit!.” Another expressed, “Can’t believe Bernice is actually leaving!” Fans are left with just one question: Will Bernice ever return to the Dales again?
Samantha Giles Talks About About Bernice’s Comeback
Emmerdale fans are already looking forward to Bernice’s return because she has been a part of the village on and off since she made her debut in 1998. For the past 25 years, Samantha Giles, the actress who portrays Bernice Blackstock, has made multiple exits from the show. Firstly, she left in 2002 before briefly returning in 2004. She eventually reappeared in 2012, leaving seven years later before making a seemingly permanent return in 2021.
While speaking about her recent exit in a video posted on Emmerdale’s X account, Samantha added to the mystery by saying: “Who knows what she’s going to go off and do now? Who knows if she’ll be back in the future? Thank you to Emmerdale. I’m going to miss everybody, but hopefully, I will work with them all again at some point in the future.”
Emmerdale star Samantha expressed, “It’s not goodbye, it’s au revoir.” But before she can make her fourth return, she has a new project. She will be playing the lead role of Cinderella in the Christmas panto at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford beginning on Saturday, December 9. So, are you excited about Samantha’s future projects?
