Sally Lindsay Labels Her Coronation Street Co-Star A ‘Dire Misogynist’
Coronation Street former Sally Lindsay, famous for her character, Shelley Unwin, recently opened up about horrific discrimination on Corrie set. The actress was a part of the show from 2001 to 2006. She revealed that her time on the soap was full of ‘fair show of misogyny.’
The actress recalled this one incident where she was the lead, and an actor was brought in to play some part in her storyline. Labeling the actor ‘dire misogynist,’ she said, “And this actor, who will remain nameless, said, ‘She’s in my eyeline’ and just pointed at me. This k*** of an actor.”
Continuing, Lindsay remembers how she confronted the Coronation Street director about the actor’s disrespectful behavior. She even urged him to jump in and address the situation. However, instead of taking action, the director dismissively suggested she simply ‘move’ as it would be ‘preferable.’ Despite her role as the landlady of the Rovers, Sally found herself marginalized.
This highlights the gender bias that existed even in significant women-led storylines. The actress’ final scenes featured her moving to the Peak District for a new job. After the Coronation Street exit, she was starred in multiple shows such as Scott & Bailey, Cold Call, and The Madame Blanc Mysteries.
When asked about her possible return, Sally made it clear that she had moved on from Corrie. She expressed, “It’s wonderful being there, and I’ve got lifelong friends from that but that was the past.” For more Coronation Street spoilers and updates, keep checking the TV Season & Spoilers!
