It looks like Impulse Season 3 might not be happening after all. YouTube has canceled the show after two seasons of the sci-fi drama. The show is based on a novel with the same name by Steven Gould. Impulse is a thriller show that premiered on YouTube back in June 2018. Developed by Jeffery Lieber, the series is produced by Lauren LeFranc and Doug Liman.
The show is more of a spin-off to the 2008 movie Jumper, directed by Liman. The show follows Henrietta Coles, a teenager who finds out that she has the ability to teleport but does not has control over her destination. The first time Henrietta uses her powers, she ends up in a truck with Clay Boone, who tries to rape her. After that, Impulse is a chronicle of the fallout from that incident. Even after the show had positive reviews from everywhere, why did YouTube cancel the show is a major question. The show had 100 percent tomatoes on rotten tomatoes with a 88% audience score. Why did YouTube choose to do so to the show? The reason behind this the YouTube’s strategic shift back in 2018. The streaming service went from SVOD to AVOD model that means they were going away from the original scripted programming and doubling down the unscripted fare.
Ever since then, all the original scripted programming on the service is getting canceled. The same thing happened to a much popular show Cobra Kai which was also canceled by YouTube after two seasons. However, Cobra Kai was picked up by Netflix for future seasons. While all the viewers and fans of Impulse had hoped that some other streaming giant would pick up the show for more seasons, it doesn’t look like that would happen. The producer and showrunner of Impulse, Lauren LeFranc, shared the news of Impulse Season 3 getting canceled on Twitter. She posted a heartfelt message saying that they have tried very hard to find a new home for the show.
But sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. In the statement, LeFranc talks about the struggle and the creators of the show have faced in finding a new home.
