Latonya Pottain is best known for her appearance on Season 11 of My 600 Lb Life. She was 37-years-old at the time and lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, and had been open about her health struggles on the TLC show. Back then,she weighed 632 pounds when her episode began. Hence, she was mostly bound to her bed and it was a very upsetting and unpleasant sight for the audience.
Despite seeking help from Dr. Now, Latonya never qualified for weight loss surgery. The episode ended with Dr. Now stating there was nothing more he could do for her. But she still created quite an impact on the viewers, impressing them with her will to improve. Sadly, the latest update about Latonya is that she has lost her life. She was merely 40 when it happened.

In an interview with the Shreveport Times, Latonya shared her goals. Well, she had planned to finally qualify for surgery and support girls in her community. She wanted to do it for the ones struggling with family problems and had nowhere else to go. She wanted to name it, ‘Guiding Light Group Home.’ The My 600 Lb Life star said her brother’s death had deeply affected her weight loss progress, putting it on hold.
Back then, Latonya revealed she was working with a trainer and actively dieting. She hoped moving closer to family would support her health journey. She also dreamed of having “a big, awesome wedding.” Later on, she ended up doing so with her husband Daune. Since then, Latonya had said that the dieting was working and she had started to lose weight and was showing progress.

Latonya Pottain ended up passing because of a cardiac arrest. Back then, she was at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center. According to TMZ, Latonya’s family visited her at home the morning of her passing. Her brother said she was struggling to breathe and told them she felt “extremely uncomfortable.” They noticed she didn’t look well, but didn’t realize how serious it was.

Later that day, a nurse called the family to say Latonya had called an ambulance. She was then taken to CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center in Shreveport. She reportedly went into cardiac arrest and passed shortly after arriving. Then, after a preliminary autopsy, they found out it happened because of “cognitive heart failure.” Back when she was on My 600 Lb Life, she had said food gave her comfort.
In emotional scenes from the show, Latonya had admitted that food “took the stress away” from her pain. She had also started a GoFundMe page, trying to seek medical help. Back then, she was 740 pounds, and things were increasingly difficult for her. But because of her health issues, Latonya had gotten bedridden in June 2024. This reveal has come as a shock to the TLC audience.
