When TLC’s Sister Wives started airing on television back in 2010, it made a lot of people uncomfortable due to its central concept of polygamy. However, people adjusted to it with time and became more open to the idea that the practice exists, and that’s how some families live their lives. But, the recent seasons of the popular show have put polygamy in a bad light because the patriarch of the family, Kody Brown, is now fed up with his marriages.
However, some more unknown facts about the family are emerging, making the audience even more uncomfortable. In fact, these details will shock you to the core, as it turns out, some of the Brown family members are related. Here’s all you need to know.
Sister Wives: Janelle Was Meri’s Sister-In-Law, Married Her Brother Before Kody!
While a lot of fans might already know this, but Kody’s first and second brides knew each other before they became Sister Wives. Meri’s brother Adam Barber and Janelle Brown (previously Schriever) were married for two years before Kody even came into the picture. Hence, she was Meri’s sister-in-law back then, and reports say that they were also pretty good friends. However, at that time, Meri was married to Kody Brown. So, Kody and his first wife’s brother Adam became friends too. This is how the polygamist met Janelle for the first time.
Only a while later, Janelle separated from Barber and spiritually married Kody. There rumors that she was also cheating on her ex-husband with Brown when they were married. Hence, Kody, Meri, and Janelle stepped into the world of polygamy together.
Did Meri Brown Pull Janelle Into Polygamy?
Well, whenever the topic of their past relationship comes up, people often think that Kody and Meri both pulled Janelle into the concept of plural marriages. However, some fans have been recently speculating that it was actually Janelle who started seeing Kody. But, Meri was unaware of their relationship. A Reddit user even talked about how Brown and his second bride were planning to get married on Meri’s birthday. It was Kody’s mom that convinced the couple to drop the idea as it was a bad move.
So, as per the looks, Meri might not be the one pulling anyone into polygamy, but could be a victim of cheating. The only twist here was that she decided to accept her husband’s relationship, and it eventually became a plural marriage. Besides, this would explain why Janelle and Meri always had tensions between them. It was fairly visible on screens, and their fights became intense with time. A year after marrying Janelle, Kody went ahead and brought in his third wife, Christine, in the dynamic. Years later, in 2014, he married Robyn, who is now known to be his favorite amongst the all.
Sister Wives: Kody & Janelle Brown Are Also Half-Siblings!
Janelle and Meri being previously related isn’t as disturbing as this fact. It turns out, polygamist Kody Brown and his second wife Janelle are also half-siblings. Around the time Janelle married the Sister Wives star, her mother was already married to Kody’s father, Winn Brown. Hence, the couple who shares six children between them, are also half-siblings. In fact, they have been related ever since they “spiritually” tied the knots. Kody’s dad passed away in 2013, whereas one of his own Sister Wives, Sheryl Brown (Janelle’s mom), passed away at 76 in 2020.
