While Sister Wives fans know Kody Brown for his antics, in the latest episode, we see the patriarch be vulnerable in front of his ex. The reality star sat down with former sister wife, Janelle, in North Carolina. Through this meeting, Kody hoped to address years of tension and regret he was feeling towards his former family members.
Fans aware of Kody’s past might expect him to mess this up as well. But he surprised many by opening up about his past anger issues. He even mentioned that he wished he could take it back. But this turn from Kody hasn’t appeared out of nowhere, since TLC has been promoting Kody’s so-called “apology tour” for a while now. But is this apology truly heartfelt? Or is there more to the timing than meets the eye? Keep reading to know more.

Well, the usual storylines of Sister Wives focus on the Brown family and their relationships. That hasn’t really changed. This season, we can see Kody making an attempt to “own” his part in the family’s breakdown. Fans who have been following along know that the turning point came during the Coyote Pass meeting. This is where Kody and Robyn arrived to finalize the property sale while Janelle and Meri waited in their vehicles. The four barely acknowledged each other, and the silence between them, even after the deal, made it impossible to ignore.
Kody later admitted that it was this moment that forced him to reflect on how the once Brown family had reached this point. He had a conversation with Robyn about therapy and said he felt almost compelled to confront his own behavior. According to Kody, the apology tour was meant to help his ex-wives “feel free” instead of staying tied to past conflicts. Even then, Janelle said in a confessional that she was unsure why Kody wanted to reconnect now and questioned whether his intentions were genuine.
Kody traveled to North Carolina to meet Janelle one-on-one, in hopes of clearing the air between them. He immediately acknowledged the bitterness he carried throughout the breakup and admitted he took his anger out on the entire family. Kody told Janelle that no one deserved the level of frustration he showed and explained that his emotional reaction came from a place of hurt within. He then addressed what, according to him, was the most painful comment he ever made.
In a previous season, Kody told Janelle he did not love her. During their conversation, he confessed the statement was “a lie born from pain.” Hearing that, Janelle got emotional. She told Kody that she always knew he loved her, despite whatever problems they were facing. In his confession, Kody remembered the early days of their marriage. He started talking about the affection they once shared and expressed regret over not protecting the bond they built.
Kody stated that he struggled with the realities of plural marriage and recognized that Janelle was the one who paid the price. Janelle appreciated the apology and said she still cares for him. But she was not interested in rebuilding a relationship beyond co-parenting. She ended the conversation by saying that she wished Kody would reconcile with their children.
