Sister Wives star Kody Brown showed a rare, vulnerable side during the latest episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. The reality TV star is often known for his antics and somewhat fiery personality. He grew emotional as he reflected on his role as a father and husband. What started as a physical challenge quickly turned into an emotional reckoning for the 56-year-old.
Kody even admitted that many of his past mistakes still weigh heavily on him. As he spoke about his fractured relationships with his children and ex-wives, fans saw a different Kody. But is this newfound humility genuine, or just another TV moment? Keep on reading to find out what really happened.

Even as Kody Brown works through his regrets, his daughter, Madison Brush, continues to grapple with the emotional distance between them. In a recent episode, Madison confessed that she still feels hurt by her father’s absence. Madison is the second oldest of Kody and Janelle Brown’s six children. “You want your dad to show up,” she admitted in a confessional alongside her husband, Caleb Brush.
“You want reconciliation. I know I played a part and I’m angry because I’m still trying to learn to not be disappointed,” said Madison. She also acknowledged that she’s trying to see her father in a new light, accepting that he “might be hurting” and “didn’t know how to show up.” Meanwhile, Kody expressed his wish for healing with his ex-wives and children, but noted that reconciliation could only happen “on their terms.”
During the November 6 episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Kody Brown reached an emotional breaking point. After struggling through a hostage rescue drill with Olympian Shawn Johnson, the directing staff questioned his leadership decisions. This pushed Kody into deep self-reflection about his life outside the show. “There’s always the accusation that I was favoring one over another,” he said, referencing his 18 children. “But they would turn against you, they were like, ‘I don’t need dad or want dad in my life.’”
Kody admitted that his estrangement from most of his older kids started because of his own mistakes. “I should have had a stronger relationship with my children,” he confessed tearfully. The reality star also added that he’s now willing to accept responsibility. He further explained that his “failures came from not knowing about being a good dad and husband” despite believing he did. “I really thought I understood it,” he continued. “I did it wrong in so many ways,” concluded Kody.
Nowadays, Kody is committed to repairing his relationships. This includes his ex-wives, Christine, Janelle, and Meri. Kody said he’s ready to rebuild his family from the ground up. “I am sorry that I’ve hurt or offended my children. That kind of humility is what I need back in my life,” he said.
