Fans of reality TV have got a new show to talk about now, and its name is Suddenly Amish. TLC has announced its new lineup, which includes a kind of reality experiment. Through this show, the network is introducing fans to the world of the Amish. The whole world has always been fascinated by the community for decades.
In this reality series, six outsiders would be placed directly inside the Amish world. This would mean that these individuals would have to experience the Amish tradition, culture, and community life. The cast also won’t have access to technology and modern comforts like AC or cars. Will they adapt to the rules? Can they handle the cultural shock that comes with the transition? Keep reading to know more.

As we mentioned before, Suddenly Amish introduces six individuals who come from different backgrounds but have the desire to bring a change in their lives. The six individuals include Matt, a 34-year-old father from Texas. He joined the show in hopes of a spiritual reset after a divorce, which was difficult for him. Second is Kendra, a 33-year-old former dancer from California.
She wants to “break free” from the body image issues she has been facing since childhood. Judah is a 22-year-old rapper from Missouri who is used to luxury and comfort in his daily life. Things get especially hard for him since he has germ-phobia. Then comes 40-year-old Aaron, who was born in a pastor’s home. Ever since he was young, he had been drawn to the Amish culture, but couldn’t convert because of his hearing disability. Finally, there are Esmerelda, 25, and Billie Jo, 44.
The six outsiders will be joining Lancaster’s Amish community in Pennsylvania as they hope to convert. According to TLC’s press release, the community is shrinking, and a progressive group within it believes that welcoming outsiders may help rebuild their numbers. There was a trailer that accompanied this announcement. In the trailer, fans see a serene farm area with horse-drawn buggies, where the six individuals would be living. They also released a teaser for the show.
The narrator announces to the world how Amish people live. “We abstain from electricity. We abstain from cars,” he announced. There are also strict routines the cast must follow, which are integral to Amish life. The participants get their first reality check when they arrive at their new home and get to know that they must live without modern conveniences. Women were shocked to learn that Amish women make reusable pads for their monthly cycle.
The series will also feature people inside the Amish community. James is a self-proclaimed rebel and is trying to redeem himself after the community shunned him. Bishop Vernon takes on the role of the leader who wants to grow the community. Mentors Allen and Sarah will guide the cast through daily life. James’ cousin, Emma, is someone who can relate to the new members, as she recently came back to Amish living. The series will debut on TLC on January 13.
