During the shoot of the film, he was practicing for a scene where he accidentally shot the cinematographer, Hutchins, and even hurt the director. The cast and crew rushed them to the hospital, but by that time, Hutchins had passed away.
After the tragedy, chaos of legal battles, media trials, and so much more followed. After several court sessions, the court declared that Alec was not responsible for the tragedy, but the armorer was. However, Alec’s wife revealed that the incident changed everything for them. Alec is no longer the same person and even deals with post-traumatic stress disorder. She further elaborated that their kids try to help him battle his issues, and he is trying his best to recover.

In the reality show, Alec revealed that it still haunts him how the flashlights chased him during the media trial. He was sad, angry, and devastated. After the incident, he did not want to go back to work on films. He was given a clean chit from the court, but his life completely changed after that incident.
He wanted to curl up in his shell and not face the world. He still could not believe how he had misfired and taken someone’s life. A child lost his mother. Furthermore, the world portrayed him as the villain, although he was not.
The Baldwins: Hilaria Claims Alec Changed For The Worse After The Rust Tragedy!
Hilaria Baldwin revealed that her husband, Alec, has changed significantly since the shooting of the film Rust. She referred to the infamous tragedy that took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Hilaria recently appeared on an episode of Let’s Talk Off Campus with Kelly Ripa. She revealed that after the accident, her husband began suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and even received a professional diagnosis.
When the host asked to elaborate, Hilaria explained that he is very different from who he used to be. She believes he is still suffering from the tragic situation, which has forever changed him. Regardless of how people have treated him over the past few years, Alec has changed. However, little by little, he is working on himself and trying to return to his original self. Hilaria added that their children are encouraging him to work through it.
Previously, Alec revealed that he suffered from PTSD and wanted to end his life. He would lie on the bed and think that it would have been better if he were dead instead of Hutchins. He could not get out of his bed and was feeling hollow inside. Hilaria elaborated that Alec is now trying to focus on the highs of life.
She said, “When you see that you have something to live for, and these are seven little things, and we have Ireland, and she has her baby.” Hilaria continued, “There’s so much beauty and joy, and I think that helps him to try to lead a happier life.” Alec has also taken time off from work and is spending time with his family.
