The Bold And The Beautiful: John McCook Reveals Why He’s Not Ready To Retire

Fans of The Bold and the Beautiful were concerned when Eric faced a tough situation at the end of 2023. Many wondered if this was the end for him. If John McCook decided to retire from his role, which he’s held since the soap started in 1987, it would have been the perfect time for his character to leave. Fortunately, the Forrester family’s leader made it through, and the actor isn’t planning to stop anytime soon.

“From my point of view, I’ll be working right up until they drag me out of here,” says McCook in an interview with Soaps.com. “I celebrate, privately, every day that I have this job. It’s fun, it’s creative, and I like the people that I work with. After my lovely wife and wonderful children, it’s the next thing that I’m grateful for. This job and the work that I’m fortunate enough to get to do.”

The Bold and the Beautiful star jokingly adds, “One day, they’re going to have to call my wife.” And says, “Come get him!’ because until I can no longer remember lines or have some kind of physical limitation, I have no reason to stop working!” Even after all these years, McCook stays excited and engaged with Bold & Beautiful. “I’m happy every time I get something new to play,” he shares.

“There are lots of old-man stories, so I depend on Brad [Bell, our top writer and EP] and the writers to keep coming up with things. I don’t want to be just the old guy bouncing his grandchildren on his knee and saying sweet things to them.” He emphasizes, “I want that too, it’s part of the character’s life. But I don’t want it to be his whole life.”

So don’t worry, as Eric’s time on B&B is not over yet. And there is more to explore in his storyline. So stick around to see what’s in store for his character. Meanwhile, keep your dial locked on TV Season & Spoilers for all the latest scoops on The Bold and the Beautiful!
