The Santa Clause 4: What Went Wrong? Will Tim Allen Return?

Disney

The Holiday season is far away, but The Santa Clause 4 is certainly not. The family-friendly franchise that won many hearts for over two decades is back with yet another addition to its franchise. The Tim Allen starrer trilogy is still a classic watch for the Christmas holidays.

The first Santa Clause movie arrived in 1994 with a plot that was unconventional for a Christmas movie. Later, the popularity and collections led to the announcements of two more installments in the queue. The sequel was then released in 2002, which also became a massive hit, just like its predecessor. The trilogy’s final arrival was The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, which hit the theatres in 2006. The film did exceedingly well, much like the other two parts. And now, it’s been fifteen years, and there are no signs of a holiday movie. So, what happened to the Santa Clause franchise? Let’s find out.

If we analyze the money that went into the making of all three films, the intentions of the makers will be clear. So, the first film’s budget was $22 million, which produced a collection of $190 million, which was a massive amount at that time. Later on, the second part was allotted a working budget of $65 million, which brought in $172.9 million.

It’s a shocking fact that the final film was made within a small budget of $12 million. And likewise, it received an even smaller profit of around $110 million. This was a questionable production decision as a franchise this big couldn’t run under such a small wallet.

This was a clear indication that the makers wanted to wrap up things after the third movie. Even if we look at the film’s final moments, all arcs have been sharply wrapped up. Buddy Claus, Santa’s son, is born, and he leaves by the end of the movie. However, this makes it evident that the makers wanted to keep the character for a much farther film, Santa Clause 4. Unfortunately, the movie never made it to the screens, and it seems unlikely even now.

Will We Get To See Tim Allen Again?

Disney

Tim Allen has a close relationship with Disney, let aside Santa Clause. With his quirky Buzz Lightyear and other franchises like Home Improvement and Last Man Standing, he has a solid commitment to long-stretched franchises. Even though there is no word about a fourth Santa Clause film, it would be delightful to watch Tim Allen dress up once again as the red old man. It’s not clear whether the veteran would agree to return for the role or not.

The Santa Clause 4: Release Date

Disney

Even if Disney decides to reboot the franchise for the final time, it’s not easy to say when the film will ultimately release. Considering the current situation that the world is in, a theatrical release is a distant dream. A more realistic expectation is for a light-hearted family film to be available to stream on Disney+. As to when we will get the final product, there’s no certainty.
