With the start of Vanderpump Rules season 12, many aspects are “first-ever.” The latest season has introduced a new cast, and this has resulted in many personal stories that go far beyond the drama of SUR. As new members have joined, many fans have been curious about one name in particular, Shayne Davis. While the show has its own brand of chaos, relationship drama, and other reality TV mess, Shayne’s journey into reality television was equally complicated.
In a recent interview, Shayne revealed that he was wary of joining a franchise that has 11 past seasons and loyal fans come with their own set of risks, as cameras capture every mistake. But why exactly did Shayne hesitate before signing on to the show? And why did he ultimately decide to move forward despite his fears? Keep on reading to know more.

As mentioned previously, Vanderpump Rules season 12 saw one of the most dramatic resets in the show’s history. The producers of the show revealed a new cast to be featured in Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant, SUR. The fans saw ten new SURvers, including Marcus Johnson, Venus Binkley, Jason Cohen, Chris Hahn, Angelica Jensen, Audrey Lingle, Natalie Maguire, Demy Selem, Kim Suarez, and Shayne Davis.
Shayne’s storyline is especially interesting as he is the only main cast member not working at SUR. Despite that, he still finds himself involved in the group’s drama. He is close to Marcus and often meets with the rest. Beyond that, Shayne revealed that he survived a near-fatal shooting in 2012. It was an experience that made him rethink his life choices.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the new cast member revealed that he almost quit reality TV even before entering the world. He opened up about the real reason for thinking twice about joining and admitted that he didn’t want to expose his personal life on reality television. He acknowledged that his life has not always been picture-perfect, and the idea of cameras documenting every mistake didn’t sit well with him. Shayne explained that reality TV is different from anything he had experienced before in his life.

This made him seriously think about whether he wanted to showcase his struggles to the world. Even if he thought there would be an emotional risk, he decided to feature in it. Shayne felt that if he decided to star, he might grow from the experience as a person. The new reality star also mentioned that he hasn’t watched earlier seasons. His longtime friend Marcus played a role in convincing him as well.
He told the publication that even Lisa Vanderpump contacted her, which convinced him. Shayne has been active in the area where SUR is and feels he had a sense of loyalty towards the place even though he doesn’t work there. Besides this, he also shared that he had been sober for three years and wanted a reality TV experience. Shayne was looking forward to watching himself on the screen and recognizing his flaws.
