The Opening Episode Has Indeed Disappointed Fans
The first episode of the eighth season of When Calls The Heart sees Nathan reminding Elizabeth that she had promised to go out on dinner with him by the end of the seventh season. However, viewers can evidently see Elizabeth hesitating when Nathan suggests that they should go out at night together. But then Nathan’s rival Lucas shows up at Elizabeth’s house. She seemed more excited to see Lucas than she was when seeing Nathan.
By the end of the episode, Elizabeth agrees to go to dinner with Nathan. Elizabeth’s son Jack and Nathan’s niece also join them. Before entering the café, they all meet up where Lucas’ mother Helen was also present. Helen has only just arrived in Hope Valley and is also the editor of Elizabeth’s book. After meeting Helen, Elizabeth suddenly makes an excuse that she isn’t feeling well and asks Nathan if they can reschedule their dinner. Disappointedly Nathan agrees to the request.
Fans Are Disappointed With Elizabeth’s Behavior
The first episode of the eighth season saw Elizabeth sending mixed signals to Nathan throughout the episode. Fans seemed to dislike this. While Elizabeth did tell her friend Rosemary that she cared for Nathan, her action revealed that she was quite hesitant in getting close to him. That might be because she is just scared by Jack’s death (Elizabeth’s husband). Opening her heart again to someone might put her at the risk of getting hurt.
It is also possible that Elizabeth had blown Nathan off because she met Helen just then and became nervous. Elizabeth had landed a book deal last season. But viewers know that she isn’t very confident about her writing and is actually quite sensitive to criticism. Whatever might the reason be, Elizabeth’s actions have left viewers disappointed.

Fiona opens up her own barber shot, but then she faces difficulties in bringing customers in for the cut and shave. Lee is injured. So, a newcomer’s words of comfort will cause Rosemary to reflect on what she really wants in life. The creators have promised that they will give viewers answers to the question of who Elizabeth would choose.
