Akinyi and Benjamin met online. Fans got to see them introduced on 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days on the third episode. He lives in Arizona and is hoping to meet Akinyi in Kenya. He is worried about carrying out travel expenses and giving a bride price. Since he is a pastor-in-training, Benjamin is not rich. He has a 5-year old son from a previous marriage. Benjamin was heartbroken and financially drained with the divorce and legal costs. But he is a dedicated father.
Benjamin is dismissing his class and his students have questions for him. One student asked whether he is going to be in class for the upcoming week. To that, he replies that he will be on his way to Kenya. It’s a 14-hour flight. His class knows all about Akinyi and they are happy for him. His students are also excited for him. One student was concerned about the way their teacher was going to interact over there. To that, Benjamin said that English is one of the main languages. So, he won’t have a problem.

The student also expresses concern over some heinous crimes. He warns his teacher as not to get kidnapped or his organs harvested. They are concerned about their teacher going to Kenya and are hoping that he doesn’t get hurt. One student says that he thinks what Benjamin is doing is a bit of a stretch. He asks Benjamin what he likes about Akinyi and how he knows that she is the one.
He says that he likes Akinyi’s personality. She can make him laugh when he is having a bad day. Benjamin expresses one of his fears that Akinyi might be different in real life than what she is on texting and face time. But he is hoping to come back engaged. He doesn’t have a ring yet as he has to pay a price to Akinyi’s father and mother. It’s a way to honor the parents in the African culture.
His student is worried that Benjamin is going across the world to meet this woman. She might also end up using him. And Benjamin doesn’t seem prepared for it. In the end, his students pray for his well being and ask that everything can work out. Ben says that he doesn’t know everything about her. An in the back of his mind, he is thinking that she might turn out too good to be true.
