Various triggers can cause him to return to his old patterns. He might just get into the car and start gambling again to make him feel better. One such instance could be when he has a fight or an argument with Tiffany.
She asks Ronald whether he is strong enough to cope with that. To this, he replies that this is what he learned during his time in rehab.
