The recent outburst on Reddit against her parents, Allen and Julie, is not the first time fans have been critical of them. They weren’t very delighted when her parents refused to let Colin be a part of their trip to the beach.

In the past, Baylen’s parents had disregarded Colin as a part of the family, even though she had been dating him for a while. Her mother straight-up said the trip would be just for the eight members of the Dupree family. Baylen’s father had also said no to helping Colin record a proposal. Even though Colin has proven time and again that he loves their daughter, Baylen’s parents often complicate things for him.

Baylen’s parents have ensured that Baylen feels protected, heard, and safe, but they have not always been the best at navigating her life outside of being their daughter. Fans have, in the past, rallied when they mistreated Colin on Baylen Out Loud, even though Colin had always been supportive of her. This time, too, fans on Reddit have a lot to say.

While some describe them as overbearing and controlling, others comment on their parenting style. They have been termed “mean to Colin” in the past, but now, Reddit users and Baylen fans are really digging deep. One user said that their meanness isn’t personal against Colin, as “They wouldn’t like ANYONE Baylen would marry. To her parents, she is still a baby. They don’t want her to grow up.”

The subreddit of the TLC show commented on how the parents need to let Baylen make decisions for herself, instead of coddling her. “The goal of parenting should be to raise adults who can navigate life independently. Making independent choices and learning from them”, a user commented on the parenting style.

Another user said her father needs therapy and that all the energy he puts towards Baylen is exhausting. Fans also said the parents need to let Baylen live her life.  Another commented, “It’s obvious the parents need counseling. They are enabling.
