If someone had told Baylen Dupree she would be a Tourette’s advocate five years ago, she wouldn’t have imagined it. The TLC star of Baylen Out Loud got up close and personal about her struggle with it. The 23-year-old has become an inspiration for millions by showing what it is like to live with the condition.
For Baylen, fame did not come overnight. For the teenager diagnosed with Tourette’s, the world was a scary place. But she didn’t let her condition control her. Instead, she used courage, honesty, and humor to spread awareness about it. What inspires her to keep sharing her story? How did she manage to get herself out of the pit? Read the full story below.

Before Baylen of Baylen Out Loud became a TLC star, she faced rejection and isolation. Diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome at 18, she struggled to get the proper medical attention. She faced rejection from a doctor who refused to treat her. She felt small and powerless when a classmate filmed her during one of her tic episodes. Even though this made her fearful, she was determined to take control of her own story.
Instead of letting these experiences get the better of her, Baylen made it a driving force. “I wanted my story to come from my mouth, not anyone else’s”, she said. In 2020, she started creating content on Tiktok. She used her platform to spread awareness about Tourette’s – and her channel went viral. Soon after that, TLC gave her her own reality TV show, and everything else is history.
Baylen from Baylen Out Loud sat down for an interview with HuffPost and shared her thoughts on her reality TV show and the inspiring stories she hears every day. The Tourette’s Syndrome advocate hoped that her channel would help families and friends of Tourette’s patients to understand better. She got teary-eyed when the interviewer asked her about her growth since the first season.
Any viewer can attest to the fact that Baylen’s verbal tics in Season 2 are showing less intensity. She has put in significant work on herself. When asked how she would describe her growth over the years, she got emotional. After a pause, she said, “It is beautiful for me to see ‘cause I hated myself five years ago”. This is a raw, unabashed side of Baylen that fans would see for the first time.
The TLC star said she is improving every day because growth can only happen when you don’t stay in the same place. Baylen recalled how her friends had no idea that her parents used to feed her five years ago. It was then that she was diagnosed with Tourette’s, and it was a rough time for her to live life then.
Baylen took pride in doing basic chores that were unimaginable a few years ago. Her depression made it impossible for her to do anything. She has worked on herself and continued to strive for independence. Her growth isn’t just physical independence. It’s about regaining hope and working on oneself to keep moving forward. Through her struggle, Baylen found a purpose, and now she uses her platform to inspire others to keep working on themselves.
