‘Counting On’: Is Jim Bob Really Getting Away With Not Paying His Children?

Counting On

Counting On star Derick Dillard has been pretty vocal about the injustices his wife and the other Duggar kids have been tolerating for a long time. Apparently, Jim Duggar hid the fact that the family gets paid to do the show. He has told the kids that they are doing the show to raise awareness about their values. The question here is, does Jim Bob really gets away without giving any money to his kids? Let’s take a look.

Counting On: No One Except Jim Bob Earns According To Derick

Derick has already stated that it doesn’t matter whether you are a legal adult or a minor. If your name is not Jim Bob, you won’t get any money for appearing on Counting On. Is that really true? A while back, Derick told one of his followers that the production can fire them as she is a volunteer on the show. This started to raise eyebrows long back.

He also revealed that Jib Bob takes away the money even though now, the show is not all about him. From that time onwards, fans have been thinking about whether Derick’s claims are legit. Even if they are, there might be a way this is all legal for Jim Bob.

According to most reality shows, the minors or children are not doing a job. So, they are not obliged to pay them. Moreover, minors are not protected when it comes to reality TV. It often comes without even a work permit. Production says that they are living their lives in the comfort of their home. The only change is that the cameras are around.

Counting On: Only One Paycheck Issued

On most of the reality shows, the production gives out only one paycheck, assuming that the rest of the family will divide it up. Then, it’s up to the receiver of the check about what to do with it. Moreover, there are no laws that state equal division of money for the rest of the family members. So, even if Jim Bob is really pocketing all the money, he might not get into any trouble with the law. Plus, except Derick, none of the other kids have expressed their opinion on this. Perhaps they already know that they won’t be able to do anything about it even if they make noise.

Do The Duggar Kids Deserve Separate Paychecks?

The bigger question here is, do the kids deserve their own paychecks now? Especially when most of the storyline revolves around them? After all, they give time and effort to help make the show what it is now. For instance, the show features almost all pregnancies and childbirths which are some of the major storylines of the show.

Do you think Jim Bob should loosen his wallet a little bit and give his kids their fair share of Counting On income? Let us know in the comments below.
