TLC’s OutDaughtered is famed for all-girl quintuplets of the United States. It chronicles the life of the Busby couple and their struggle in bringing up six daughters out of which five are quints. In the latest episode of OutDaughtered, Adam Busby reveals that one of the quints, Hazel, might need yet another surgery for her worsening eye condition. Hazel was born with a medical condition Nystagmus that results in uncontrolled eye movements. Hazel was diagnosed with Nystagmus when she was a baby. It is a rare condition yet typically unheard of. Her parents noticed an uncontrolled swinging movement of her eyes. Before, Danielle thought that this was mere wobbling, but they realized that it’s much more serious. Hazel has to hold herself at an angle to focus on objects and view them clearly.
Hazel’s First Surgery As A Toddler
The first time Hazel went for surgery, she was still a baby. The couple agreed for this as this surgery was to adjust the muscles around the eye to better stabilize the eyes. When this treatment was documented on the show, Danielle explained that this surgery would not help with Hazel’s vision. She further added, “It’s more so to correct the placement of where her eye goes to focus better, so she doesn’t have to turn her neck, which is a huge deal,” she told the cameras.”
Was The Surgery End Of The Problems For Little Hazel?
The surgery helped Hazel in focusing on things. However, she has other eye problems to deal with. She has astigmatism in one eye and far-sightedness in another. Both of them are correctable with the help of glasses. Apart from this, she is growing well in all other aspects. Her parents describe her as Miss Independent in their family blog, saying that “she is super-social and confident.”
One of the key problems with Nystagmus is its unpredictability. There is no cure for this medical condition. And there is no certainty on how it affects a person’s life in due course of time. On Nystagmus Awareness Day in 2019, the Busby couple shared an Instagram post with Hazel’s picture. It read: “Here is to hoping that one day, a doctor somewhere can crack the code on this rare condition.”
OutDaughtered: Busby Family Preps For Hazel’s Surgery
In the recent episode, we see the Busby couple concerned over another surgery for their little girl. They notice Hazel turning her head more often to see things which hints to the immediate surgery. Toward the end of the episode, the parents try to prep Hazel for the surgery. Danielle says that it breaks her heart to be in the middle ground.
