Former Teen Mom pair, Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge, reunited in the event of their daughter’s recovery from 2nd open-heart surgery. Taylor Selfridge took to Instagram, posting an emotional update on her daughter’s recovery. Cory and Taylor’s younger daughter, Maya, has a congenital heart disease called Tricuspid Atresia. She underwent her 1st open-heart surgery at just seven months old.
The doctor diagnosed the disease when Maya was still in Taylor’s womb. Comparatively, to the 1st surgery, the second one went rather well. The second surgery happened earlier this month when she was just 3 years old. The former pair notably shared that they had been preparing for little Maya’s surgeries from the moment she was born. Regardless of such major health issues, the little soul persisted through these two major surgeries bravely with a smile.

Teen Mom stars Cory Wharton and Taylor Selfridge have been sharing updates on their daughter’s recovery. “I want to give everybody an update: Tuesday, Maya had open-heart surgery and everything went well,” Cory shared in one of his earlier updates. The doctors assured a steady recovery for Maya. He also shared snaps of his little “warrior” during her recovery. In the second major update, Wharton talked about the challenges they faced in the recovery phase.
However, in the last update, Cory got emotional while sharing about Maya’s health, which hit a critical curve. The little one has apparently had a fever two nights before her discharge date. Doctors feared an infection. Consequently, she had been in poor health due to the raging fever. “This little girl, Maya, has an infection of some sort, just when we thought everything was going the best it could go,” Cory spoke out anxiously.
Yesterday, Teen Mom fame Taylor Selfridge took to her Instagram to share a positive update on her daughter Maya’s recovery. The emotional post consisted of goofy pictures of little Maya and Selfridge’s emotional update. “After 13 days in the hospital, we are home!” Taylor exclaimed with joy. She shared that Maya’s oxygen level was elevated to a low 90%. Her oxygen levels used to be at meager 75-80 % before the surgery.

“Before the Fontan, her blood was mixing oxygenated blood and non-oxygenated blood, which caused her to have low oxygen to her lungs,” Taylor further added. “Caused her to look purple or blueish,” Selfridge said, pointing to Maya’s heart disease. “She’s so much more pink now!” she added. The former couple hopes that the Fontan surgery Maya underwent will eventually help her oxygen levels rise to the high 90s.
The proud mother of two also shares her pride in Maya’s brave persistence regardless of the challenges she faced during recovery. Despite all of the hardships, Maya was always all smiles. Furthermore, the Teen Mom alumna expressed her gratitude towards Maya’s team of doctors and nurses, their family, and her elder daughter, Mila, for always being present.
Previously, Cory also took to his Instagram to express his gratitude for all the well-wishes he received on behalf of his daughter. The couple split earlier this year before Maya’s surgery. They share another daughter, Mila, 5. For more such latest reality TV updates, stay tuned to TV Season & Spoilers.
