Recently Young and the Restless star Melody Thomas Scott opened up about her traumatic childhood. She spoke about everything that has happened to her and how she coped up with it. In The Young and the Restless, she has been playing the fan-favorite character- Nikki Newman, for about 40 years now. She is even coming up with a memoir- “Always Young and Restless,” where she has given insights into her life. Here is everything the actress has talked about.
Melody Thomas Talks About Her Traumatic Childhood
In the interview, Thomas talked about how she was sexually abused as a child. Her grandmother, who was also her guardian, saw everything and still did nothing. In the memoir, the 64 years old actress tells that she had gained a place in Hollywood Children’s Theater at the age of 4. The Theater was run and owned by an elderly man- Cosmo Morgan, who is now dead. However, to appear on the showcase, he gave all children private classes at his apartment. While training, Thomas was forced to sit on Morgan’s lap, and he would molest her.
In an interview with Page Six, Scott says that even though she was a child, she knew what was happening to her was wrong. She would look at her grandmother, who was in the same room and ask her for help, but she wouldn’t do anything. Scott says that she remembers she was four years old and barely knew what was happening and whether if it was wrong. Her grandmother, who sat only about 5 feet away, witnessed the whole thing but didn’t do anything about it.
How Did She Cope From That?
In another interview with ET via zoom, Thomas revealed that her grandmother had let Scott get sexually abused to push her acting career forward. She would be there and watch while doing nothing. Scott revealed that things only got worse in her teenage years. Eventually, she became stronger from experience. Scott’s Grandma’s behavior became even worse. By the time Scott was a teenager, it was madness. So, all these things taught Scott strength. Then she realized that she had to be strong to survive. It wasn’t easy, but then she learned eventually.
Scott says that she hasn’t yet forgiven her grandmother even after she is dead. Scott says that she isn’t ready to do that. She does not know if she will ever be able to do that. Now, she is aware of everything, and what her Grandma did was evil. Nobody lets things like that to happen to a small child.

Through her strength and patience, Scott has gained a space in the industry. She has a successful acting career of about six decades. In her memoir, Scott has even talked about her professional highs and lows. She tells that she had almost made it in The Brady Bunch, but she couldn’t. Now, she is much famous for her character Nikki Newman on Young and the Restless. She has been on the soap opera since 1979. After a break of about 17 weeks due to lockdown, The Young and the Restless is back. Talking about the soap opera, Thomas says that the soap isn’t steamy because of the health precautions. She says that she hasn’t had any love scenes, and she feels they won’t be a part of the script for some time.
In her personal life, Thomas is now married to Ed Scott, the supervising producer on The Bold and the Beautiful. They have been married for 34 years and very happy—Thomas’ memoir- “Always Young and Restless” releases on August 18. The Young and the Restless airs all weekdays and is bringing much entertainment.
