Victor Newman of The Young and The Restless is assertive and outspoken as one can get. Perhaps The Mustache channels the energy from his portrayer, Eric Braeden. The legendary daytime star is known to never mince his words when calling a spade a spade. On February 21, 2023, Eric took to his official Twitter account to express his stance on the incident that happened with actor Alec Baldwin on the sets of his film, Rust.
In October, 2021, during the shoot of the film, actor Alec Baldwin was handling a firearm and it discharged. Unfortunately, he fatally wounded the cinematographer of the film, Halyna Hutchins. The film star is now facing involuntary-manslaughter charges for the incident. However, The Young and The Restless star, Eric Braeden believes that Alec Baldwin should not be facing the said charges. The actor asserted that he has done hundreds of guest-starring roles on nighttime TV and films, and never has it been the actor’s responsibility to check firearms.
The Young and The Restless star explained that the usual procedure is that the prop master (armorer) demonstrates to actor that gun is empty before handing it over. He added that the actor is shown the magazine and barrel to prove it is empty. Hence, insisting that it wasn’t Alec Baldwin’s responsibility to check that the firearm was not loaded. However, one of Eric’s followers pointed that Alec was also the producer of the film, thus, he had some responsibility.

The Young and The Restless legend asserted a stern “NO” to the remark. Furthermore, he clarified that anyone in the business knows that when the star of a film is also the producer, it is to give him more money on the backend. Moreover, Eric insisted that it’s very rare that the producer runs the set. It is usually the assistant director or the production manager’s job. The Young and The Restless star believes that it is a “miscarriage of justice.” And that the prosecution is trying to make an example by going “after a star.”
Many of The Young and The Restless star’s followers seemed convinced by his explanation. While there were a few others who still held up their reservations.
