Orlando Jones Won’t Return For American Gods Season 3
It looks like the third season won’t feature Old God Anansi, also known as Mr. Nancy. Recently, news came in that the studio behind American Gods, Freemantle, has fired Orlando Jones for plot-based reasons. Although the star came upfront about this news and stated that he had been thrown out because of racially motivated reasons.

On his Twitter post, Jones made clear that as per Freemantle, Mr. Nancy’s “angry, get shit done” approach was the “wrong message for black America.” Adding to the controversy, he further commented related to the new (third) showrunner of American Gods, Chic Eglee.
As Jones stated, “This white man sits in that decision-making chair, and I’m sure he has many black bffs who are his advisors and made it clear to him that if he did not get rid of that angry god Mr. Nancy he’d start a Denmark Vesey uprising in this country. I mean, what else could it be?”
Studio Also Discussed The Issue
After all this mess-up, Freemantle made a statement to Deadline as of what is happening with Jones. According to them, the storylines of American Gods have continually shifted and evolved to reflect the complex mythology of the source material. And the main reason that Jones will not feature in the upcoming season is that Mr. Nancy, among other characters, is not featured in the portion of the book they are focusing on within Season 3.
Major Cast Addition In American Gods Season 3
The third season will feature a great set of new stars. Recently, Iwan Rheon from Game of Thrones has joined Season 3 as Liam Doyle. Also, Danny Trejo has joined the upcoming season as one of many forms of Mr. World. Dominique Jackson will play Mr. World. Julia Sweeney will feature as a guest star in Season 3, playing the character Ann-Marie Hinzlemann. Rapper Wale is all set to be Chango, a fiery, silver-tongued, Orisha who is an essential link to Shadow’s unexplored past.
Moreover, Eric Johnson will play Lakeside’s Chief of Police Chad Mulligan. Ashley Reyes as Wednesday’s techie Cordelia. Herizen Guardiola as the Yoruban goddess of love and fertility Oshun. Blythe Danner as Goddess Demeter and Marilyn Manson as Viking rocker Johan Wengren.
American Gods Season 3: Release Date
The show took almost two years two return after its premiere on Starz. Therefore, there is no certainty when Season 3 of American Gods will arrive. However, the fans would hear the news regarding the premiere of the upcoming season quite soon. American Gods Season 3 would likely release by the summer of 2020.
