Netflix’s third zombie-genred original series revolves around the most gruesome summer in the lives of the characters of the show. Fans are still waiting to know if there’s still hope in the story. With its debut, the series gained much popularity and a large number of eyeballs seeking for some grisly zombie content. Being produced by The Asylum (which also produced 2014’s Z-Nation), Black Summer called in many former fans to watch. As of now, everyone’s waiting for an official renewal. What’s taking so long?

Black Summer Season 2: Renewal

Netflix barely takes a month to renew the shows that it’s confident about. As of now, it has already been around eight months since the series debuted. However, there are a couple of shows that the streaming giant greenlights right before they’re about to release. Well, we can only hope for a green flag to arrive soon at our doors. However, why is the streamer taking so long?
Black Summer did manage to impress a large number of zombie-drama lovers. However, it didn’t reach the expected viewership number that the streamer expected. Besides, despite having a huge fanbase, the series is rated pretty low with a 6.3 IMDb score. This might be one of the main reasons why Netflix is taking so long to decide whether to renew the show or not.

What Will Happen Next?

The story of the show got a satisfactory closure towards the end. Since the beginning, the plot puts much focus on Rose (Jaime King) in a quest to find her daughter during a zombie apocalypse. After a harrowing journey of fighting the undead, the mother finally reunites with her daughter in the season finale.
While some fans are satisfied with the closure, others argue that there can still be enough story to cover in Black Summer Season 2. In fact, a few of them put a point that even if Rose successfully finds Anna (Zoe Marlette), the mother-daughter duo still has to survive the zombie apocalypse. Hence, if Netflix renews the show for a second round, it may feature them fighting the undead together.
On the other hand, there’s a theory that surrounds the internet that Black Summer Season 2 will now shift its focus on Willam (Sal Velez Jr.). The character previously had a significant role to play until Rose kills him midway. In order to prevent others from William’s infected injury, she had to shoot in him in the head. While it seemed like the last of him, some fans believe he may return as iconic as Jon Snow’s revival in HBO’s Game Of Thrones.
