The producer of this comedy-drama, Steven Lilian and Bryan Winbrandt together along with CBS network renewed the show for God Friended Me Season 2. The announcement for the same came on 29 January this year. Although the series did not have excellent ratings or appreciation, the show with its spiritual theme brings up something unique for the fans to watch out for. This modern concept may also be the reason for the renewal.
The show revolves around the life of Miles Finer, an atheist who got a friend request on Facebook from an account name God. That account then suggests new friends to Miles who need help. Miles, with his hacker friend, Rajesh, and Cara, a friend he met through God, later try to find out who is behind this account. This idea makes the show amusing with Miles becoming kind of an agent for other people’s well being.

Season 1 ended with a woman, named Joy, approaching Miles as she got a friend recommendation from God. It made Miles think that he is not alone in this position. The show’s executive producers also mentioned that Joy would be the changing factor when it comes to God Friended Me Season 2. Many questions will be hovering in the minds of the fans regarding the background of Joy and whether she hails from New York only or somewhere else. Another issue will come out as What does it mean to have another person in the same situation as Miles?
The second season will begin with Cara in Paris. She will return to New York after a few episodes and with a different perception and mindset. The show also stars Javicia Leslie, Suraj Sharma, and James Morton. Adam Goldberg appears as a guest, and Miles had initially suspected that he is the person behind God’s account. Derek Luke is also a semi-regular, who played Simon’s obscure tech partner on whom the team had also suspected as God’s account manager.

On 12 June, the producers announced the news of the return of actress Erica Gimpel as a series regular. In the previous season, she played the character of Trish and was present in eight episodes. Erica was so excited to hear the news that she tweeted expressing her happiness. The plot suggests that Trish will likely feature on the series as a constant support for Arthur, but also someone who the other characters can know about more.

But speculations also hint that she might be the one behind the God’s Account. As she would be firing the bullet from Arthur’s shoulder to get close to everyone without intimating them? God Friended Me Season 2 of this light-hearted drama will premiere in September this year, most likely on 29 September. The time slot will be 8.30 PM on Sundays. The lead actor Brandon Micheal Hall, through his Instagram post, also confirmed the news. The production for the second season is on its way to begin next month. The end of Season 1 enclosed the main plot about Henry, Pria, and Simon. But it was clear that none of them is running the account.
